Administrator Category 1

Administrator Category 2

Hours: 30 Hours
Frequency: Initial

 

Complete the Board of Examiners approved 30 hour classroom training program.

9 Hours can be done on-line through NAB Approved Courses.  If you are applying for a Category II license, you must register to attend the 8 hour dementia training prior to taking Section A of the Category II examination. If you are obtaining dementia specific hours online, it is your responsibility to make sure the course outline specifically mentions Alzheimer's and/or Dementia.

Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 12 Hours (Category 1); 18 Hours (Category 2)
Frequency: Annually

 

An Assisted living facility administrator shall have at least 12 hours of continuing education each year.

Contain a minimum of twelve (12) equivalent hours of continuing education per year for licensees issued a Category I Assisted Living Administrator license.

Contain an additional six (6) equivalent hours of continuing education per year for licensees issued a Category II Assisted Living Administrator license. These six (6) additional hours shall be on educational programs approved by the Board that pertain to cognitive impairment and/or dementia care.

Continuing education hours above and beyond the required equivalent hours shall not carry over to the next renewal period.  Category I administrators may obtain a maximum of 6 hours online. Category II administrators may obtain a maximum of 9 hours online.  Courses must be NAB approved.

All Staff Training

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: New Hire

 

All staff who have contact with residents, including the administrator, shall have initial training and refresher training, as necessary.

The following subject matter areas shall be covered:

1. State law and rules on assisted living facilities.

2. Identifying and reporting abuse, neglect and exploitation. 

3. Special needs of the elderly, mentally ill, and mentally retarded.

4. Basic first aid.

5. Advance Directives.

6. Protecting resident confidentiality.

7. Safety and nutritional needs of the elderly.

8. Resident fire and environmental safety.

9. Identifying signs and symptoms of dementia.

Nurse Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

A licensed practical nurse and registered nurse shall complete 24 hours of continuing education biennially. 

License renewal occurs every odd year for licensed practical nurses and every even year for registered nurses.  Acceptable content must be beyond the basic educational level for entry into practice of the individual licensee and includes:

1. Clinical technology, procedures, and nursing implications.

2. Specialty areas of nursing practice.

3. Nursing practice related to care of the patient.

4. Administration, management, and supervision in health care delivery.

5. Social, legal, and ethical aspects of nursing.

6. Nursing education.

7. Nursing research, theory, and practice issues.

8. Quality improvement and management, accrediting standards, and processes.

9. Academic credit applicable to nursing that is earned from liberal arts, sciences, business, and general education courses obtained after initial licensure from an institution accredited by an educational accrediting body or that is earned in pursuit of a higher degree in nursing.

Nursing Home Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

A nursing home administrator shall have 24 hours of approved continuing education for license renewal annually.

Only 9 hours of NAB/NCERS through approved self-study courses every renewal cycle.
