Nursing Home Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 50 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

A licensed administrator shall obtain 50 credit hours of Board-approved continuing education during each biennial period.

During the biennial period in which an administrator is initially licensed, the administrator shall obtain two credit hours of Board-approved continuing education for each month or part of a month remaining in the biennial period.

Certified Manager Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

A certified manager shall obtain 24 credit hours of Board-approved continuing education during each biennial period.

During the biennial period in which a manager is initially certified, the manager shall obtain one credit hour of Board-approved continuing education for each month or part of a month remaining in the biennial period.   No more than 40 percent of the required hours may be obtained using self-study, online, or correspondence courses.

Caregiver Initial Training

Hours: 104 Hours
Frequency: Prior to offering services

 

Requires Approval. The owner of an assisted living facility caregiver training program shall ensure that the training program includes classroom instruction and skills training regarding each of the required subjects.

Max of 26 hours of distance learning and includes 16 hours instructor-supervised skill training.

Manager and Caregiver Continuing Education

Hours: 6 Hours
Frequency: Every 12 months

 

A minimum of 6 hours of ongoing training every 12 months from the starting date of employment.

The training shall include: 
Promoting resident dignity, independence, self-determination, privacy, choice, and resident rights; fire, safety, and emergency procedures; infection control; assistance in self-administration of medications; and abuse, neglect, and exploitation prevention and reporting requirements.  Orientation for new employees, hours used in obtaining and maintaining current CPR and first aid, and hours used in obtaining initial training from a training program may count toward ongoing training for the first 12 months after the employee's starting date of employment.   

In addition to the ongoing training requirements in R9-10-707 (B), a licensee of an assisted living facility licensed to provide personal care services shall ensure that each manager and caregiver completes a minimum of two hours of ongoing training in providing personal care services every 12 months from the starting date of employment.

Personal Care Assistant/Resident Assistant Continuing Education

Hours: 12 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

A staff member who provides direct care must attend at least 12 hours of in-service education every 12 months from the starting date of employment.

Manager Initial Training

Hours: 40 Hours
Frequency: Prior to offering services

 

Requires Approval.  The owner of an assisted living facility manager training program shall ensure that the training program consists at least 40 hours of classroom instruction.
