Affiliated Home Care Aide

Hours: 5 Hours
Frequency: Prior to presence with a client

 

An affiliated home care aide shall complete a minimum of five hours of entry-level training prior to presence with a client, as follows:

1. Two hours of orientation training regarding his or her role as caregiver and the applicable terms of employment.
2. Three hours of safety training, including basic safety precautions, emergency procedures, and infection control.

Affiliated Home Care Aide Continuing Education

Hours: 5 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

An affiliated home care aide shall complete a minimum of five hours of annual training.

The annual training shall relate to core competencies and be population specific, which shall include, but not be limited to, the following areas:
1. Clients’ rights and safety.
2. How to provide for and respond to a client’s daily living needs.
3. How to report, prevent, and detect abuse and neglect.
4. How to assist a client with personal hygiene and other home care services.
5. If transportation services are provided, how to safely transport a client.

The entry-level training and annual training on department-approved job-related topics may be completed through an online training program.

Home Health Aide

Hours: 120 Hours
Frequency: Initial

 

The basic training program for certification shall be a minimum of 120 hours and consist of at least the following:
1. Introduction (4 hours).
2. Interpretation of medical and social needs of people being served (20 hours).
3. Personal care services (70 hours).
4. Cleaning and care tasks in the home (10 hours)
5. Nutrition (16 hours)

There shall be a minimum of 20 hours of clinical experience of which 15 hours are in personal services, 2 hours are in cleaning and care tasks and 3 hours are in nutrition. There shall be no more than 75 hours of classroom lecture.
Training in personal care services shall be given by a registered nurse, preferably a public health nurse. Nutritionists, physical therapists, social workers and other health personnel may be involved in appropriate aspects of the training program.

Home Health Aide Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

12 of the 24 hours are required in each year of the 2-year certification period.

May not use online CEU's to meet the requirement.
