Hours: 30 Hours
Frequency: Prior to offering services

 

Must be approved; The curriculum includes at least thirty (30) actual hours.

At least fifteen (15) hours shall comprise a discussion of each the following topics:

(i) resident rights;

(ii) environment and fire safety, including emergency procedures and first-aid;

(iii) assessment skills;

(iv) identifying and dealing with difficult situations and behaviors; and

(v) nutrition.

The remaining fifteen (15) hours shall provide emphasis on meeting the personal,
social and emotional care needs of the resident population served, for example, the
elderly, Alzheimer’s, or the severely and persistently mentally ill.  

Please note that completion of a state-approved medication administration training course can't be applied toward the 30-hour training requirements.

All Staff Continuing Education

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

The facility shall provide annual in-service education for staff in at least the following areas:


infection control, fire prevention and safety, accident prevention, confidentiality of
resident information, rehabilitative nursing, resident rights, dietary, pharmacy, dental,
behavior management, disaster preparedness, and, if it has developmentally disabled
residents, developmental disabilities, residents with Alzheimer's conditions, those
conditions, or mentally ill residents, mental illness.

Qualified Medication Administration Persons

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Initial

 

Must be approved by the department and must be taught by a licensed nurse, physician, physician's assistant, or pharmacist. 

QMAP must pass the competency evaluation developed or approved by the department pursuant to section 25-1.5-302(2), C.R.S., as a condition of employment in that facility at least once every five years.  The course content shall include classroom and skills practice.
