Nursing Home Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 36 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

Every renewal applicant shall complete 36 hours of Continuing Education (CE) relevant to the practice of nursing home administration required during each prerenewal period.

The prerenewal period is the 24 months preceding the expiration date of the license.

Direct Care Staff Dementia Continuing Education

Hours: 12 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Direct care staff must annually complete 12 hours of in-service education regarding Alzheimer's disease and other related dementia disorders. 

Topics may include:
1.  assessing resident capabilities and developing and implementing service plans;
2.  promoting resident dignity, independence, individuality, privacy and choice;
3.  planning and facilitating activities appropriate for the dementia resident;
4.  communicating with families and other persons interested in the resident;
5.  resident rights and principles of self-determination;
6.  care of elderly persons with physical, cognitive, behavioral and social disabilities;
7.  medical and social needs of the resident;
8.  common psychotropics and side effects;
9.  local community resources; and
10.  other related issues.

Manager Dementia Continuing Education

Hours: 6 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Managers must complete six hours of annual continuing education regarding dementia care.

Manager and Direct Care Staff Continuing Education

Hours: 8 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

8 hours annually including:

1. Promoting resident dignity, independence, self-determination, privacy, choice, and resident rights;
2. Disaster procedures;
3. Hygiene and infection control;
4. Assisting residents in self-administering medications;
5. Abuse and neglect prevention and reporting requirements; and
6. Assisting residents with activities of daily living.

Nurse Continuing Education

Hours: 20 Hours
Frequency: Every 2 years

 

A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first
renewal of an Illinois LPN license.
