All Staff In-Service Training

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

Each employee shall receive documented in-service training. 

The training shall be tailored to annually include all of the following subjects that are relevant to the employee's job responsibilities:

a.  principles of good nutrition, menu planning, food preparation, and storage;
b.  principles of good housekeeping and sanitation;
c.  principles of providing personal and social care;
d.  proper procedures in assisting residents with medications;
e.  recognizing early signs of illness and determining when there is a need for professional help;
f.  accident prevention, including safe bath and shower water temperatures;
g.  communication skills which enhance resident dignity;
h.  first aid;
i.  resident's rights and reporting requirements of Section 62A-3-201 to 312; and
j.  Dementia/Alzheimer's specific training.

All Staff Emergency Training

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

Personnel and residents shall receive instruction and training in accordance with the plans to respond appropriately in an emergency.  The facility shall:

 a.  annually review the procedures with existing staff and residents and carry out unannounced drills using those procedures;

Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 40 Hours
Frequency: Biennially

 

During each two-year period commencing on June 1 of each odd numbered year, a licensee shall be required to complete not less than 40 hours of qualified professional education directly related to the licensee's professional practice, of which no more than 10 hours shall be distance learning.

Administrator Dementia/Alzheimer’s Specific Training

Hours: 4 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

The facility administrator shall annually receive a total of 4 hours of Dementia/Alzheimer's specific training.

RN/LPN Continuing Education

Hours: 30 Hours
Frequency: Every 2 years

 

Each applicant for renewal shall comply with the following continuing competency requirements:

 a. An LPN or RN shall complete one of the following during the two-year period immediately preceding the date of application
for renewal:
   1. licensed practice for not less than 400 hours;
   2. licensed practice for not less than 200 hours and completion of 15 contact hours of approved continuing education; or
   3. completion of 30 contact hours of approved continuing education hours.
