Nursing Home Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 20 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Every licensed administrator shall obtain annually, at least 20 clock hours of continuing education, through programs approved by the Board or by the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators National Continuing Education Review Service (NCERS).

Emeritus Status Administrators shall obtain annually at least 10 clock hours of continuing education approved as provided in subsection 4.2.a. of this rule.

All Staff Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementia Training

Hours: 2 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

The licensee shall provide training to all new employees within fifteen (15) days of employment and annually thereafter on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. 

The licensee shall maintain an employee training record. The training shall be a minimum of two (2) hours in duration and shall include all the following: basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; communication approaches and techniques for use when interacting with persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia; prevention and management of problem behaviors; and activities and programming appropriate for these individuals.

All Staff Continuing Education

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

The licensee shall provide and maintain a record of in-service training annually to all staff on the topics of resident rights, confidentiality, abuse prevention and reporting requirements, the provision of resident activities, infection control, and fire safety and evacuation plans.

All Staff Fire Safety, Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Training

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

The licensee shall rehearse the disaster and emergency preparedness plan with all staff from each shift annually and shall keep documentation of the rehearsal that includes verification of participation by each employee’s signature and a critique of the rehearsal by the licensee or administrator.

Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 8 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

The administrator shall participate in eight (8) hours of training related to the operation of a residence annually and a record of this training shall be available for review.

RN Continuing Education

Hours: 12 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Registered nurses are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education during each renewal period inclusive of required continuing education per SB437 and Chapter 30-1-7a annually for best prescribing and drug diversion training if they prescribe, administer or dispense controlled substances, and for mental health conditions common to veterans and their families. 

Per SB 437 and Chapter 30-1-7a, each person licensed to practice registered professional nursing must:
        1. complete 2hrs of CE for mental health conditions common to veterans and their families annually, and
        2. complete 3 hours initially and then 1 hour thereafter annually of CE for best prescribing and drug diversion training if you prescribe, administer or dispense controlled substances.

LPN Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Every 2 years

 

LPNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education and engage in 400 clock hours of LPN practice in each 2-year reporting period. Reporting occurs on the even years.

Effective July 1, 2005, all licensees who have not completed two (2) contact hours in end of life care including pain management will be required to report those hours: (1) at their first licensure renewal when CE is required; or, (2) at the time of reinstatement of a lapsed or inactive license.
