Nursing Home Administrator Continuing Education

As a condition for renewal, each licensee shall provide evidence of completion of twenty-five (25) hours of continuing education every year.

All Staff Continuing Education

Hours: Topic Specific
Frequency: Annually

 

The facility shall train all employees in the emergency procedures.

New staff shall be trained within the first week of employment. The facility shall review the procedures with all staff at least every twelve (12) months. A training record shall be kept in each personnel file.

Direct Care Staff (Level 2) Continuing Education

Hours: 12 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Staff must have at least twelve (12) hours of continuing education annually related to care of persons with dementia.

Administrator Continuing Education

Hours: 16 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Administrators must complete at least sixteen (16) hours of continuing education annually.

At least eight (8) of the 16 hours of annual continuing education shall pertain to caring persons with severe cognitive impairments.

RN/LPN Continuing Education

Hours: 20 Hours
Frequency: Every 2 years

 

If the applicant has not practiced nursing during the last five (5) years, applicant shall:

1. Successfully complete a refresher course or the equivalent, accepted by the Board;
2. Successfully complete a nursing education program which confers a degree beyond the licensee’s basic nursing education;
3. Obtain certification by a nationally recognized professional accrediting agency in a specialty area of nursing that is accepted by the Board;
4. Successfully pass NCLEX; or
5. Successfully complete twenty (20) hours of CEUs within two (2) years and which adhere to the following guidelines:
    a. Courses shall be relevant to the applicant's primary area of nursing
practice;
    b. Fifty (50) minutes of theory is equivalent to one (1) CEU; and
    c. Academic courses relevant to nursing may be accepted as meeting
the requirements for continuing education.

CNA Continuing Education

Hours: 24 Hours
Frequency: Annually

 

Employment as a CNA prior to certification expiration for a minimum of sixteen (16) hours and twenty-four (24) hours of education which may include in-service presentations, contact hours or other means which provide learning activities related to CNA practice.
